This is utter heaven and perfectly catches it. So glad you introduced me to substacks. I think I will now get notifications. I’m almost as excited as when I had a subscription to Whizzer and Chips as a child. Bridget was an intellectual so got Jackie magazine!

Glad you enjoyed Annie! I do love Substack - it feels like a very relaxed and unpressurised way to write. Wendy and I both worked on Jackie!

We went on our first ever cruise this year... I just thought they were for old people. (Im in total denial of my age here) It was a river cruise in Germany and it was amazing.

Me too! There is something so lovely about being literally ferried about. So nice not to have to think about anything or make decisions or tussle with google maps x

We went on our first cruise last year after much will we, won’t we-ing! We chose Japan and had a fabulous time, a great way to see new places without the hassle of dragging luggage around.

Buffet circling was a highlight 😄👍

Japan! Bet that was incredible. And yes takes out all the hoofing and heavy lifting!

I, like you, thought that cruises were not for me. But I went on one of the first Virgin Cruise ships (just up and down the English Channel before they cruised off to the Caribbean, thankfully the weather was glorious) as a guest three years ago and my mind was totally changed - the food!! The facilities! I'm very envious of your trip and so glad you're loving it, it sounds incredible :D

Thanks Catherine! Yes am a total convert now. I'm not sure real life will ever quite match up...

I felt the same about going home, Fiona - the cruise was like a little fantasy world...!

I have to say, I'm so glad someone recommended your Substack (can't remember who, so sorry)... I recognised your name and face immediately and knew you were someone I knew from my childhood: I remembered the other day it was Just Seventeen! I read it avidly in the 80s, so being able to come full circle and read your writings again in my 50s is all sorts of wonderful and nostalgic. My 14-year-old self would be stoked that you'd send me a message almost 40 years later 🥰

That's so lovely Catherine - they really were the best of times! Some of the Just Seventeen gang are still my best friends now 40 (gulp) years on xx

What a way to indulge your many interests, Fi. (Love your art as well as your writing.)

I bet they hide the scales on those cruises!

Enjoy!
