This brought back so many memories. I was gifted a Tarzanagram for my 21st birthday from my friends. He carried me over his shoulders and ran through a crowded nightclub with me. Mortified!! I've featured this in my own post today .. Faffing Friday #4 because I laughed that much! The things we used to do 😆
Yes, exactly - can you imagine today's kidz finding that hilarious?! Yet it was a pretty common occurrence, with numerous agencies supplying various 'grams! x
Yes - those fantastic greasy meals embedded in our childhoods. Also the Golden Egg. We 'ate out' so rarely it was viewed as a proper treat! Knickerbocker Glory, anyone? x
Haha - so they did. Enjoy your cruise - so boomer! I'm going on my first cruise soon - a river one up the Rhine (so to speak). A press trip. Feel v lucky, though very aware of how it'll be viewed by the kids! x
How about that lovely aroma (smoke) in the morning after a night at the bar or restaurant when your clothes need to get up and walk on their own to the washer.
On the other hand, with so much smoke in the bars, it made a great camouflage for anyone who secretly smoked and did not want their parents to find out. ("No, Dad, the people next to us were smoking")😉
Yes - I'd forgotten about the next morning clothing reek! How you could whiff it when still lying in bed, from the heap of clothing pulled off tipsily and dumped at the other side of your bedroom. And smokey hair - gah! Can you imagine that now?
I actually thought you were a fellow Gen X - think you can choose which you want to be as there's only a year in it! I agree with you, being called a Boomer is not a compliment - one of my daughters is constantly rolling her eyes at my inept lack of ability with my mobile phone saying, 'Oh Mum, you're such a Boomer!' I just reply 'whatevs' in a truly Millennial manner. Love your painting by the way :)
Thanks Fiona! Yes I think it's like when you live between two different postcodes and one is more desirable than the other. You nudge yourself into the 'better' one. Jealous of you being Gen X tho ;)
Oh but didn't we have fun and don't we have some great memories to look back on. (strictly speaking I missed out on being a boomer by a couple of years - I apparently, am a member of the silent generation! Fat chance of that, haha.)
I was never a smoker, nor was anyone in my family, but I have to admit that I have a weird nostalgia for the smoky haze of the 1970s; my memories of my first visit to the UK in 1974 all have a suspicious amber tint to them. (Oh, and bad drink-and-drive credit where credit is due: That was Mungo Jerry, not Chuck Berry!)
Yes, everything was definitely amber tinted. Agh - yes of course. For some reason (and I realise this is unforgivable) I always mix up Mungo Berry and Chuck Jerry! I'd correct it, but I think Substack would then bother everyone by sending it out again!
So funny, so true, though I was never a very natural Boomer (barely drink, don’t smoke, such a party pooper!). And I’ve never ordered anyone a Strippergram, but remember the acute embarrassment when the staff ordered one for the boss’s birthday, in the magazine offices. Do you remember? TM looked absolutely mortified. He was not amused!
It’s only just struck me that the 1970s fashion for orange & brown decor was probably just to hide the nicotine stains!
I think you're right!

Thanks for making me smile. The stripagram thing particularly had me giggling. It seems like such an odd, archaic thing now doesn’t it?
Yes, as archaic as piled-high ashtrays on desks! Me (wistfully) to son: 'It's like it was another era.' Son: 'Well, it WAS.'
I was booked a stripagram tarzanagram when I left Cosmo - SO embarrassing. I still get flash backs
Agh! Why did we ever think it was funny?! X
Loving it so far! Japan is a mad place! Happened upon a cosplay festival yesterday, a sight to behold 😮
Sitting around having drinks brought to you is ok 😄👍. Only complaint is the hot tub is too hot 🥵 xx
Brilliant! Highlight of a lengthy drive from Scotland to get the ferry in the south coast - a stop at the Little Chef…

Oh god this made me laugh 😂
I’m on a Japanese cruise right now, very boomer! Gen Z would probably go round it on a paddle board 🤔🥴
I loved sweet cigarettes, they even had a wee red tip!
Xx

And the furry teeth. 🤮
🤣

We did, and we do! 'The silent generation' - glad to hear you kick against that xx

I mean, they both had great facial hair 🤷🏻

Thanks Wendy, glad you enjoyed! I do remember and that's the very incident I was thinking of! xx
Ah, thought so! It’s seared in my memory!
